Just wanted some input from this community on my band...

Down Home Anthem

The band name is Down Home Anthem and at the minute consists of myself playing guitar and my friend playing bass... We've been playing for a couple of years together and we're definitely looking for a drummer, vocalist and more... We're living in SE houston...

I do the recordings but they are not the best of my ability. I'm hesistant to record leads and other parts that we won't be able to reproduce later, so I'm more interested in pursuing other members... I know I need more bridges and choruses but not sure how to do that necessarily.

I've also found that since I am the primary rhythm instrument, it's much tighter for me to primarily play acoustic, which has definitely changed our style.. Plus its so much easier to record my acoustic which has a direct out on it which sounds pretty good even before adding a mic... I live in an apt complex and dont usually record at volume which has limited my sound quality especially on electric guitar and bass...

I would like to catch more of what we play when we play together and what we play when I play electric, but so far that has usually come out substandard...

I'm using bandcamp to host our first album from last year and to preview some from the upcoming album... We are using facebook but that really only reaches our friends.. Reverbnation seems good for hosting mp3s and for interfacing with facebook... Otherwise I'm at a loss as to how to increase exposure... We used to find random people on myspace that wanted to be friends and would listen, but I don't feel that facebook works as well for people who you don't know (unless they find and add you)...

Any advice from the community is appreciated!!! -Brett

Welcome to the community.

You asked us to check out your band. Well, let me be honest and say that I don't think you have a "band" to check out. What you have is a nucleus. A set of ideas and maybe even a core sound around which you could form a band--but it's not a band. Without drums and some sort of lead (i.e. lead guitar in an instrumental setting; but more likely vocals in a traditional band setting) it's hard to call this a band, much less hear it as a band.

I don't mean to be discouraging. A tight nucleus is a good thing. But keep pursuing those missing members. Get a drummer. Get a singer. And in the meantime, keep writing and tracking. You've got some good ideas going--they just need to be fleshed out.

Thanks for your input whitestrat, I've pretty much thought of it as an instrumental band, but if we can find the right singer, then we're definitely looking forward to that... We have about fourty songs that we've put together during our time practicing.. We almost had a "full band" a couple of times, but never really worked out...

Just noticed that you said welcome to the community and I looked at my thing and kinda laughed... I lurked for a couple of years before my join date and I still only have a handful of posts... Then I saw how many posts you have... CRazy!

No sweat. I lurked for a good two years before I ever got up the nerve to post. That's a good thing, though--I learned a ton in that two years of silent lurking. Every time I had a question, I searched before posting. I always found some relevant answers. So before I ever made a single post, I'd learned tons about this recording process...

We all go through that kinda phase lol...just kinda gotta keep goin with it. don't be afraid of what people think, were all here to help make you better.
