I'm looking for the least expensive way to get low level signals boosted to go into LAYLA/Pro Audio 8.
I have a mixing board but I need to use it to mix layla outputs for the headphone amp.
Is there an inexpensive way to just boost signal for microphones and guitar input?

Thanks in advance,

What kind of mixing board do you have? THAT is what you need to use to send to your PC. IT should have seperate headphone outs from the main outs. If not, you should be able to use aux sends to send your signal to different places. Tell me what your board is and I can probably tell you how to set it up properly.

I'd like to avoid mixing the tracks before they are recorded.
I have peavey 8 channel. I purchased it so I could mix drums to 2 tracks when I only have 2 tracks available for the drums.

If I mix to 2 tracks before going to the PC I might as well have
bought a stereo card instead of $700.00 LAYLA.
It is important to keep input sources independent going into the card.

The audio buddy is interesting, but it looks like I would need
3 or 4 of them (and I didn't see XLR inputs in them)
Please lower you expectation with regard to my idea of cheap :)

Thanks for your help,
Dave

midiman audio buddy

Well after some quick research on preamps, the audio buddy
looks good.
My onlt question now is, Given that I really need 6 channels,
Is there anything more economical?

It would be nice if midiman offered more chanels for less per channel.

(I hope my cheapskatedness does not offend)

Thanks again,
Dave

How about a soundcraft folio note pad? 4 mono and 2 stereo inputs, preamps and all for about $150. You can't be that much of a cheapskate if you shelled out the $$$$$$ for your Layla;)

Soundcraft folio

Looks nice. Does it have individual line outs (post preamp)?
I want to avoid mixing before going to Layla.

BTW, At the time Layla was a very inexpensive way to do 8 track digital. I bought it around 4 years ago for $800.00.

Since we were lucky enough to produce an album before mp3.com became "unprofitable" I more than recouped the investment.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion

Check out soundcraft web site, its got some good stuff on it about their products.

BTW, I listened to one of your numbers, "don't be rude". Very pleasant, tight sounding unit you got there. Until the piano comes in it reminded me of The Average White Band from the 70's. Very funky.

Eeesh ... I listened to that track of yours also "don't be rude".

How do you get such a clean sound? And the drums sound great? Are those real drums or midi?

I just put up a post on this NG/bbs about my problems with my midi drums - see how bad they sound at
