All I want to do is record the guitar. Straight into the PC would be nice. And I want to do it for as cheaply as possible.

We have two guitarists. So heres what I want to do.

Record guitar 1.
Record guitar 2 (somehow play back guitar 1 so I know the timing).
* Or possibly play both together *
Edit them with some software.
Add in drums via drum machine.
Add in vocals.

Can you link me to all the places where I can get the required equipment to hook my guitar up with my PC and the cheapest (possibly free) software to do this with.

If you're only recording one thing at a time, then you should be able to record with the soundcard already on your computer.

Do you have a cheap analog console?
Then you can record both guitars at the same time.
You simply have to pan the one dead left, and the other one dead right.
You also may use an compressor in the console chain.

But don't ever try to record directly into your sound card. This would easily ruin your converters.
