Cheap way to add monitors to PA without monitor outs?

okay, i'm not exactly sure where to put this question, so sorry if it's in the wrong place, but here's my situation...

I picked up one of these... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/632200/ when it was on sale for like $150... anyhoo, this works great for our little practice sessions, but what i'd love to do is be able to add monitors to it so we could use the speakers to point out to people for little things like BBQs n' stuff.

So my question is.... without buying a $200 power amp, how do i do this? there's got to be some shitty little thing i can buy to do the trick right? Also, this might sound stupid, and might not work anyway, but any chance in hell a little M-Audio Audio Buddy would do the trick?

okay, here's what i've got as far as outs...

2 SPEAKER OUT(s)...These are 2 conductor 1/4" speaker outputs. each one is rated at 8 ohm minimum impedance. Total minumum load for the amplifier is 4 ohms. You may connect either 1-4 ohm, 1-8 ohm or 2-8 ohm speaker cabinets. Do not go below rated minimum impedance.

1 LINE OUT...(this is what the manual says)...This is a 1/4" 2-conductor line level output. The impedance is 1k ohm @ -10DBv. It is used to connect the KPM4080 to either additional power amplifiers or as an additional recording device. This line level signal is a mirror image of the main outputs.

1 TAPE RECORD (L/R)...These RCA jacks are for hooking up a tape deck to record from mixer. Both channels are summed into mono for compatibility. The signals are taken pre-master section, meaning that they are without reverb or the master tone section, and does NOT include the Tape In signal. The impedance is 1k ohms @ -10dBv.

Does that help at all? any way i can use any of these with some makeshift amp (guitar amp, pre-amp or something like that?)

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks!
Tait

For a cheap way out you could always just hook it up to a home stereo reciever and speakers. Also I have ran mine an Awia bookself stereo and it sounded decent.

Get a powered monitor--although one of those will probably be twice as much as you paid for your PA!

Yeah, you started out so cheap that adding a good power stip seems extravegant!

BRADLY: That's interesting...i've actually got another set of PA speakers we can use for this.

MSHILARIOUS: That's exactly what i am trying to avoid. i'm basically looking to jerry rig this. There's got to be some simple way to do thiw without spending a ton.

APL: Extremely helpful! As you pointed out...i bought cheap, and yes a good power amp does seem extravagant. Your missing the point. This system works great for what we need it for (practice, and little back yard BBQs n' shit like that). It would be "nice" to add on monitors, but they'll need some kind of external amp. How can we do this without spending hundreds on a power amp?

Ha, ha, sorry, I was being facetious.

You can get one of these Carver cubes pretty cheap on ebay.

Here's another one

ah...interesting...now we're getting somewhere!

that's still a fairly powerful amp. technically i don't need anything stronger than my little 80 watt system. do they sell any shitty little power amps like that?

i've got a guitar amp...would that work? I'm just looking for creative ways to pull this off without buying more stuff.

so the audio buddy probably would NOT do the trick?

Yes, a guitar amp will work, as long as you have a line out from your mixer. Don't plug a powered output into a guitar amp.

You can go from the line out to the monitor amp you use.

yeah, unfortunately i don't have a monitor amp. that's why i'm looking either for a really cheap ass one, or ways to use my guitar amp, or pre-amp or something. like i said, i'm not looking to spend more than $100 tops, and only need something no stronger than around 80 watts

:p

I meant use the line out to whatever you are going to use, guitar amp or whatever, sorry.
