I need an advice in a new cheap pc hardware.
Do I chose an AMDK6 or a CELERON?
I m going to work with wave editors, and Programs like Cubase and Cakewalk.
Many friends tell me to buy the AMD, but I don t know the differences between this two processors.
If you can help me, please advice me in the right hardware.

Oh crap, here we go.

Man, DO NOT BUY THE K6. You're friends don't know what they're talking about. It's absolutely not worth it. The performance of a Celeron over a K6-2 for recording is *extremely* noticable. Things like DX effects rely heavily on the FPU for which the K6 is EXTREMELY lacking. In fact just about everything runs better on the Celeron. I "upgraded" from a K6-2 400Mhz to a Celeron 400Mhz and I couldn't BELIEVE the difference. My Q2 bechmarks went from 40 to 70! The number of tracks and effects I could record nearly doubled!

Plus, the only thing you can upgrade the K6-2 to is a K6-3...and they're 99% the same beast.

Now with a SLOT 1 Celeron you can upgrade to the PII or PIII...and those are noticable and worthwhile upgrades (when the $$$ is right). And hell, what's the celeron down to now anyway? Like 40 bucks? Just get it. No one's ever going to say, "oh man, my computer rocks except for this stupid Intel processor." You might also look into the PII 350 or better...they should be real cheap by now (~100 bucks).

Ok, there will be one guy who's going to repsond with "I'm using a K6-2 right now and love it!" There's always one. Do some searching on the net for yourself...search for "K6 vs Celeron" and look up some benchmarks. Won't you be suprised to see the Celeron beating the tits out of the fastest K6-3 processors in everything but business applications.

Now the Athalon is a differnet story...but of course you're on a budget.

here i am????
the one guy who is having great luck with the amds k6-2 450.i use cakewalk pro 9. get
15 or so audio tracks.however he has a point about being able to upgrade to a p III eventually!!

Right on- Now here's a direct comparison between two CPUs at the same clock rate.
I use a PII-450 and get 36 tracks. And these are 44.1KHz 16-bit .wav tracks. Part of this 2.4:1 discrepancy is probably due to the difference between CW9 and Vegas Pro. Or maybe you've got a slower HD.

i have a 300 mmx amd k-KRAPOLA CHIP .. on a good day im lucky i can play mp3's with out it stuttering.. then again , i have a crapaq computer... which doesnt help the situation..

Here is another one who like the K6/3 400.
But I've got a fast hard drive and lots of memory 512meg, which I just upgraded. But it does start to have track sync problems when I stretch 8 tracks to 9 or 10 tracks. Other wise I have been happy with this computer. But I built it and optomized it for audio and that is it's only job. NO internet, or word processing or family graphics, Just recording audio of all types.

I hope this helps.

i get 15 of audio so far
i have,nt tried more
no sync problems yet!!!
