Cheap PC software for recording audio/midi

Any suggestions for cheap PC software for recording guitar tracks/audio/midi other than FruityLoops? I would like something that maybe had a Soundfont player VST built in or could use them in some way. I don't need fancy interfaces or high end functionality. Just the basic record, some FX, mix and export. But it must support ASIO audio input/output.

And you can go out to any Barnes&Noble or Borders and pick up "Computer Music" magazine - they have a full studio suite in every issue's DVD, including sequencers, plugins and tons of audio samples. (Last November, they gave away a full copy of SamplitudeV8SE worth $150 - pays to watch 'em for giveaways...)
