I've got an '83 Strat that I'm looking to trade, and a guy's offered me a Charvel 750XL in trade for it. I'm asking for trade+cash, as the Fender's worth more, but I'd like to hear if anyone has any opinions on the model?

Nobody? I traded the strat, and will post pics soon...

Well, I owned a 650XL and currently still own two 550XLs.

I am not sure about the 750XL, except that the PU config is different than the 650XL, but........in general.

The core construction of the guitars is almost the same.

The550XL is more plain - dot markers, no binding, etc.
Maple neck through, Poplar wings, which actually work very well on those guitars. Two PUs, one HB, one SC size that is slanted and does NOT have room for the Fenderiish or typical SC flange.

The 650XL has the Shark Tooth inlays, nice binding on the neck, 1 HB 2 SC....same non-flange thing.
It has a mid boost control - I didn't really dig it.

Both guitars are excellent IMO.
Quality is uniform.
Good hardware, including the Floyds.
Sound is surprisingly resonant.
Playability excellent.

I changed out the PUs on the 550s.
I kept them and sold the 650XL (although I kind of hated to) as I was reducing shredder guitars for other types and the 650 had more value.
If you are looking for a neck through type guitar, I think they are excellent choices.

Good luck.......

Yay

Looks pretty darn nice to me...

Congrats on the new axe.

Sweet indeed. I followed your thread about scoring the Strat then getting it refurbished--looks like you did well for yourself.

Let us know how the new guit plays...

Oh man, it's a metal guitarist's dream come true. The neck is super-thin, yet I'd definitely say it's one of the most solid-feeling guitars I've played. The first thing people say when they pick it up is "holy crap that's heavy!", and it shows in the sustain. Thanks to the Schaller-made Licensed Floyd Rose, the tuning is completely un-phased by any sort of bends you can think of, and this is with new strings! I'm really excited to start playing it more and getting used to the smaller scale (24.75" I believe?) compared to my Schecter.

I flat-out love this thing :)

Here's some much higher-quality pictures:

Serial number checks out too :D

Nice looking stick!

I would imagine the guitar has a nice baritone sound.
