Ah, so you're one of those over-drummer guys. ;)

Exactly like when I was 16 and first learning!

I would think that Charlie trained him self. If you ever have a person that has never played drums sit down at your kit you will see them do about the same thing as Charlie does with the hat and snare as they try and play for the first time.
Charlie is not a bad drummer in any way shape or form.
Sometime if you want to try a little something differant put on some three dog night. (Floyd Sneed there) You will hear want you think is percussion going on besides the drums but its all Floyd and he is not even trying to show off.
And could someone tell me what is up with the young guys and the speed drumming? Is it really anything more than a polka in fast forward?

He's been doing it for forty years! He by no means sucks!

And showing off doesn't make somebody a better drummer. BUT!: skill is skill!

I know guys who can mop the floor with Charlie AND still play with groove and feel.:)

i'm a huge neil peart, mike portnoy and danny carey fan........but man, ain't no one got the meter, feel and groove and overall sense of musicianship that charlie's got.

it took me 20 years to fully come to appreciate his playing.

i'm jus sayin..... ;)

cheers,
wade

Personally I can't stand those guys... Except Carey. For me, Colaiuta's the man. But Gadd has the groove, every time!
