Changing to Computer Recording

I am considering changing to computer recording versus current Roland 2400 system. I am confused about the different types of software, pro tools, cuebase, etc... What is the most common and consistant? What is the best interface between the computer and instrument or vocal? Motu, Maudio, ?

I plan on continuing to use my MAudio Octane which is an 8 channel preamp and my mixdown on my Alesis Masterlink.

Is it easy to cut & paste on a computer?

You'll need to do some reading here and elsewhere on what platform (PC or Mac) and what software is best for your needs. A few days spent browsing and searching the forums can help keep you from potentially costly buying mistakes.

And yes, I can say without fear of contradiction that one thing that is quite easy on a computer is cutting and pasting.

If you are getting the Octane, just get a card that has ADAT lightpipe inputs. Frontier makes a card, and RME makes some good stuff. The Multiface is great in that you have your ADAT inputs, and 8 analog inputs in case you get better preamps later.

As for software, there are so many good programs you really have to download some demos and see what you like personally.
