Ok, I know how to using CEP BASICALLY. I want to make my first "good' recording. How do you go about doing it?
The song I am doing is 128 bpm. Do I make a click track? I did that, and the clicks aren't even matching up with the tempo bar at the bottom. Weird! Is there a better way to do this? How do you guys matc up the tempo to everything? I am frustrated.
I could do it sloppy, but I would rather do it the right way.
You made an actual wave file with clicks on it? I used to do that in CEP 1.2, b/c it didn't have a metronome, but you shouldn't have to record a new file just to get a click in 2.0. just trying to make sure I understand what's going on.
Now, if you've enabled the metronome feature under "options" in the multitrack, and you set the BPM to 128, then the clicks should definitely match up with the tempo bar. The only 2 reasons I can think of that would explain a mismatch would be
1. You don't have the tempo bar set to "BARS AND BEATS." Put the cursor over the tempo bar and right click, it'll give several options under "display time format," and make sure that "BARS AND BEATS" is selected...I think it defaults to something else, like real time, so you're seeing minutes, seconds, and milliseconds, which won't line up with the tempo (unless the tempo happens to be 60
or 120 or some multiplier thereof, lol...but I digress). Also, look at the far left hand side of the tempo bar and make sure that it says "128bpm"
OR
2. Your computer's too slow to run the video settings as fast as the audio, so you're hearing the clicks before the video gets the scroll bar up to the correspondig beat marker...This isn't a big deal, really...I mean, the metronome is so you can HEAR the beat to track to, b/c nobody tracks visually to the beat markers. The beat markers are for editing, and even if the video feed is slower than the audio, whatever you record on the 4th BEEP will be located at the correct beat marker (i.e.,
beat 4).
As for how to make great recordings, and by "great," I mean recordings that have depth, as well as space, and balance, and transferability, in addition to flawless and inspired performances by world class artists, it's a total piece of cake that anyone can do once you get past the whole metronome stumbling block.
BEST OF LUCK.
