Ok, I know how to using CEP BASICALLY. I want to make my first "good' recording. How do you go about doing it?

The song I am doing is 128 bpm. Do I make a click track? I did that, and the clicks aren't even matching up with the tempo bar at the bottom. Weird! Is there a better way to do this? How do you guys matc up the tempo to everything? I am frustrated.

I could do it sloppy, but I would rather do it the right way.

You made an actual wave file with clicks on it? I used to do that in CEP 1.2, b/c it didn't have a metronome, but you shouldn't have to record a new file just to get a click in 2.0. just trying to make sure I understand what's going on.

Now, if you've enabled the metronome feature under "options" in the multitrack, and you set the BPM to 128, then the clicks should definitely match up with the tempo bar. The only 2 reasons I can think of that would explain a mismatch would be

1. You don't have the tempo bar set to "BARS AND BEATS." Put the cursor over the tempo bar and right click, it'll give several options under "display time format," and make sure that "BARS AND BEATS" is selected...I think it defaults to something else, like real time, so you're seeing minutes, seconds, and milliseconds, which won't line up with the tempo (unless the tempo happens to be 60 or 120 or some multiplier thereof, lol...but I digress). Also, look at the far left hand side of the tempo bar and make sure that it says "128bpm"

OR

2. Your computer's too slow to run the video settings as fast as the audio, so you're hearing the clicks before the video gets the scroll bar up to the correspondig beat marker...This isn't a big deal, really...I mean, the metronome is so you can HEAR the beat to track to, b/c nobody tracks visually to the beat markers. The beat markers are for editing, and even if the video feed is slower than the audio, whatever you record on the 4th BEEP will be located at the correct beat marker (i.e., beat 4).

As for how to make great recordings, and by "great," I mean recordings that have depth, as well as space, and balance, and transferability, in addition to flawless and inspired performances by world class artists, it's a total piece of cake that anyone can do once you get past the whole metronome stumbling block.

BEST OF LUCK.

hi Chris,

Do you know that it's possible to make a tempo map in CE¨P 2.0? I have a few songs which change tempo in the middle of the song...

That's very cool...I'll bet it even alters any and all cep files to shift simultaneously too. Bear in mind, I'm way to talentless to even consider pulling off a tempo change (on purpose, that is), but it's good to know the option is there.

Hey Brett...if you were the one asking about the graphical mode of Autotune and the glitch in CEP that won't let it work, I found a way around it. If I'm thinking of somebody else, then I don't dare type anymore for fear of exceeding my monthly word allotment all in 12 hours in the CEP forum, lol. :D

Man.. your memory is awesome!!!:D

yeps, that was me. Did you find a way to use it? It stille won't work graphically with me.

Yeah, it's a little weird, but it works on mine...which may or may not be due to the demons in my machine, so don't get your hopes up, lmao...Okay, say you've got the sound you want in preview mode, instead of hitting "OKAY" (which we both know does nothing), click on the "ADD" button and save that particular edit as a preset. Just like any other plugin or cooledit effect when you wanna' save some custom reverb or EQ curve or something...so hit "ADD", name the "preset" whatever you want, b/c it's not really gonna' be a preset for very long, lol, so call it "BOB" if you want. Then close antares without hitting "OKAY" at all...just hit the close or cancel button once you've named the preset. Then just open it again immediately while your file is still highlighted or loaded, click on the preset (it should draw whatever curve you had on it that you wanted to use but wouldn't work) and hit "OKAY." and it should work this time.

You HAVE to post back and let me know if it works on your machine. If it does, I'm just gonna' write a patch to fix the bug and give it to whomever owns CEP now, lol.

Good Luck,
Chris

ok, it sounds weird but I'll try it and report if it works or not....

I think noise reduction works the same way - you have to save a preset first, then close it out, then open it again and apply the saved preset to the highlighted wave.
