Anyone have a ceiling fan in your control room? I am thinking about putting one in but i am worried it will affect not only the way i listen but add more peripheral noise on top of the CPU fan and air conditioning. Maybe at low speeds it would be fine? anybody have any suggestions?

the room is the hottest in the house with the gear etc...

ya, probably not a good idea while mixing. Would work fine when not mixing.......

It would be fine during mixing; a good one is very quiet. Isolate the fan chassis with rubber washers; that helps too.

I would only think it would be a problem during tracking.

if the fan looks cool you get wow...if you run it fast, you get flutter :)

Seriously though, I have one in the control room. Once in a while I record some acoustic in there while working by myself. The biggest problem I've had is hearing the motor buzz. It's very faint...I didin't even realize it was there until listening to the recordings.

fwiw.

I was tracking some leads at a friend's home studio awhile back and almost threw my guitar out the window, thinking the intonation was off...it was just the ceiling fan..haha

Ceiling fans in a studio when you're NOT recording, mixing or listening are great.
Any other time, they suck.
Real bad!
