Hello:

Not really an equipment question, but there really doesn't seem to be another forum equiped for my question.
I'm wondering (if people here even do this) what do folks store their CDs in, to be able to access them and what not.

All the storage devices that I have found are either crude (a box with sliders), cool but not really useful (they are round and not stackable), and they all seem to have the problem of (where the hell is that CD again?) being able to find the stuff once it is stored.

I just bought two Disc Studio 100 (They store 100 CDs) and I will see how they work in practice. They are kind'a cool, and they are kind'a functional. I like it because I don't need jewel cases (which I absolutely hate), and they seem to have some kind of cataloging system. Anyway, does anyone know of good storage system that can be expanded, and used in the future without redoing everything? :)

Yes, a Sony CDP-CX355, 300-CD changer.

You may put all your cd's and cdr's into the 300 disc carousel, and title them with text using a standard PS2 keyboard. When you want them, they're just a turn of the dial and press of the button away. It's meant for listening, of course, but it's also adequate as a storage medium. I have 5 of 'em.

I ripped most of my CDs to my PC using Windows Media Player (WMP @ 128khz) and also transferred them to my Dell DJ (would love to get a device which connects to my Wireless network and grabs the songs from my PC and sends them to my stereo so I don't have to keep hooking my DJ up to the stereo in our living room)
Now I just need to put all my CDs away in the basement (I've been telling the wife I'd do this for about a year now!)

Holy massive CD storage batman!! EEK is right! 1,500 CDs at your finger tips.
I will never (actually I should not say never), let's say right now I don't forsee me needing one 300 CD Jukebox. I've seen those at BestBuy, I actually never thought of using them as Storage devices, but at $200 a pop, seems a little too much right now.
However, it's a great idea if I ever need to do that.

I want them off-line 'cause they are not just Music CDs but also Drivers, OS, and Software CDs. I currently have about 105 CDs and not one of those are music CDs. I have music CDs but I keep those in my entretainment center.
I have about 130 to 170 Music CDs which I keep in my entretainment center, and which I don't need to access in a seconds notice.

I would not recommend putting your CDs in the basement (humidity and CDs don't mix). I would get some of those cheap cardboard boxes and put them on the top shelf of your closet (if you have room). :)

Sleeve City offers little CD envelopes that look like the nice sleeves vinyl records used to come in, translucent. You can read through the sleeve, and there's no adhesive on it. Then I put mine in a DJ type steel case that will probably hold several hundred.

Sleeve City is findable on a web search.

Ok, I'll bite. How do you find anything once they are all in the case?
Do you have a way of sorting them, or do you have to look at every CD to see what you got?

I find stuff by filing according to date, and in sections divided between types (Backups, Masters, ect). There are some other sleeves by Fellows that have tabs at the top, so you could write in and file by alphabeticla order.

So you could have a software section, music CDs, recorded CDRs, etc.

Yeah I originally bought those printable sleeves. However, I found that I still had to thumb through (yeah I'm lazy) to find what I want it. I ended buying some Discgear CD storage units. They are pretty slick, they are stackable, I can remove the CD's, sort them, and look up the information.
In fact they are numbered, so I may just put all the info into a spreadsheet or Access and do a search on what I want and get the number of the CD.
Viola.
If it were music, I could do it by Alphabetical order or by Genre, but it's all computer stuff, and although alphabetical could work, there is still a whole bunch of stuff that would be under D for drivers or perhaps the company name like NVIDIA, 3COM, M-Audio, etc.
