CD-R media questions

Radiogold, at first, I had a hard time believing what you're saying, but you've definitely made some valid points and you seem to have done your homework.
Most of it makes sense to me.

So.....my question is, what's the best deal you've found on those TDK audio-only cd-r's? And what's the specific model # of that cd-r?

For the record, I've been using Memorex cd-r's for a year or so and never had a coaster(except the ones that are my fault). Also, on stuff I've burned a year ago, all the data seems to still be intact. I think they're probably like cars.... most every manufacturer has probably put out a few lemons from time to time. Definitely stay away from the cheapo bulk "Good Quality" stuff, though. I tried a 50 pack once($9.99). None of them worked in my burner. I kinda suspect that maybe they were labeled wrong and are really 80min cdr's....my burner only supports 74min, but have no way to test that theory.

Thanks,
Romeo

Brick on a CD player

A brick on a CD player? I wouldn't suggest it. My brother done this with his Timpo Player. It was ruined within the first 12 months. Apparently the service center said that the motor was worn out. I'll be honest, I don't know why? This happened a good 12 years ago.

Romeo,

Glad you saw sense in my reasoning. I think you'll be happy in many years to come as choosing the right CDR medium will give you a longer lasting recording.

The two CDR's I've stuck myself to are:

TDK CDR XA 74 (audio only) (blue/black cover)

EMTEC CDR Recordable 74 (standard)
Formally known as BASF (bright red cover)

I don't know if these two types are available in the US. If not, Just use any CDR in the TDK range. I think EMTEC is only available in Europe, Asia and Australia. You were wondering what the best deal was. I looked on ebay and saw some TDK Blanks there. Don't buy straight away. Observe the prices first as the price can often fluctuate. I'm quite sure though there must be some good Hi-Fi places in Dallas. I generally find Hi-Fi places cheaper then Music Stores when it comes to buying blank CD Media.

These two types of CDR's are the best sounding ones on the Market. I don't know about memorex, I've never used them. I've used their tapes and they weren't too bad.

I wish you many years of enjoyable burning!!

Mark
