Keep on Walkin
- interesting choice of percussion - what did you use?
- the main vocal sounds great and blends nicely when the harmonies come in.
- guitars sound pretty cool..
- overall an excellent sound for cassette
Are you Woody or Paul?

hey thanks for the comment,

for percussion I used Chinese Balls, blended with some other noises like a reverb tanks from my amp and a banjo. I am neither woody or paul, just recorded them...

That's a great sound. Nicely recorded. The percussion at the start of 'Keep on Walkin' was very interesting; experimental but not to the extent that it detracted from the overall song. The transition as the bells etc faded was well done.

Incidentally, Keep on Walkin' kinda reminds me of 'Subterranean Homesick BLues' by Dylan.

New use for ben wa balls;)

Keep on walking is cool like the over driven vocal distortion in places. Mix sounds cool.

Seaside is nice like when it comes in.
Listened to out of town too sounds good.

What type of room were you in? Mic's?

Good job

F.S.

we recorded in Paul's livingroom, which accidently sounded great. I tracked them live as much as possible (the wanted it that way) so it could still have been a little better sonicly, without all the bleed goin on. For mics I used some cheap battery condensers (guitar), one shure 58, two Sennheiser md 421's (drum/vocals), and one vintage Philips dynamic through an amp (I like to record vocals through an amp!).

When I started to mix the album I immediately heard the great quality of the tascam EQ. Unfortunately some/a lot of depth was lost transferring to computer (lack of money) so I'm saving up for a better soundcard I can mix down to now.

hey i like the way this sounds, very analog and 'real', i mean real as in sounding like the listener is in the same room as the band. good songs too, these really
are well played recorded and produced pieces!

nice one.

en dat zo vlak bij :D

Wow this sounds awesome

Really impressive for cassette. It has that tape warmth we all talk about. I think I'm going to transfer some tracks to my old yamaha cassette 4 track and then go back to the pc to see what kind of sonic qualities it has.

Hey undrgrnd,
thanks for the compliment about the sound. However I must 'warn' you a little about transferring to your yamaha. I used to own a yamaha MT something myself and it never came close to my tascam 244, 246 or 688 soundwise. I guess the eq and maybe even the dbx noise reduction plays a part in the special sound you get from the top porta studio's from tascam. They just sound warmer to my ears. And I think there's gonna be a differnce between transferring to (as you intend) and recording on, but I'm not sure...

However, I would really like to hear about the results you get...!! Cheers, Bobby

WHen transferring to tape, it's the same as recording because you have to literally press record. LOL. As far as sound quality goes, yes the Yamaha never did have a good sound. BUT a lot of that had to do with me not knowing what I was doing. I have a 60's style song I recorded digitally tha might just benefit from being softened by tape. I tracked some vocals yesterday night instead of playing with the tape machine, but I'll get to it as soon as i get the motivation to set it up. I'll post in the MP3 clinic when I 'm done.

hey undrgrnd,

i'll keep an eye on the mp3 clinic.
I was in a bar untill very late last night and had 'the' analog/digital discussion with some other guy that's recording local groups. It will always be a subject to discuss I guess. And a very interesting one! Hope to hear your stuff soon...

Hey Guys,
Last year I made an album with two friends on a tascam 688 (cassette). The quality is lo-fi mp3, but still. Here's the link:
www.woodyandpaul.com

They just released it. They now have a label, distribution and booker...
Dude, it's in German...I can't navigate though the website

actually it's in Dutch! That's like not German...and btw I think the button MUSIC (that's English) speaks for itself, no? Enjoy the ride..
