I'm going to convert hundreds of casette tapes to digital. The recordings are old and need to be cleaned up. Any software suggestions? I've messed with cool audio pro but am not sure it's what I need. Some of the recordings are from old records and such, scratchy, muddled, etc. Any advice would be appreciated!

Sound Forge 4.5 and the noise reduction/hiss remover plug in that you can get for it. It's like magic. Also I have cool edit pro as well and has hiss reduction that is like magic. I've done exactly what you're doing and if you tweak on it you can get it dialed in. You'll be amazed.

stenberg "Clean" or "Clean Plus" are cool, I have used clean and like it.

On Mac, SpinDoctor comes with Toast Deluxe and works incredibly well.
