I was getting ready to buy one so I went to the fathead website. There's a big banner on the left about a "shootout" between the Fathead, Royer and AEA. The shootout only has samples of the mics on a guitar amp. There are samples of overheads and room mics, but they're all the Fathead.
Big warning flag went up for me there. You can stick a lot of mics a few inches away from a guitar speaker and get a good sound. Not so with overheads and room mics.
How about a Blumlein pair in front of an orchestra or a piano next to a pair of Royers?
Not saying these mics are not worth $150 or whatever, and I'll still probably buy one or two. I'm just saying that an honest "shootout" or comparison of the Fatheads to some other proven mics would probably reveal some huge differences. Beware the hype.
