Carvin DX2442??

I had the 16 channel version. It's a decent board, but the onboard effects are crap. I sold it to a friend who uses it for their practice mixer.

Yeah...

I pretty much assumed the onboard effects would be awful, I'm just wondering more about the pres and recording quality. I love my little 16 channel mackie, but I need more room!

I'd bet on your mackie having better pre's and less noise than the Carvin. Carvin promotes it's gear for live sound, mostly. Not studio applications.
