Drive All Day

What do you think of this? It's a very rough mix so far... We realize the vocals may be a little loud in the mix and that the long notes at the end are out of tune. We also realize that the moog may need to come up in the chorus and post chorus. bear in mind that the bass is still a scratch. All this will be remedied is due course.

Our lead guitarist thinks that the post chorus (the part with the saxophone) needs a low, rythmic piano part because he thinks it loses momentum after the chorus. i think that might make it a little busy and possibly muddy. He disagrees because it would aparently be on a different frequency from everything else. What do you think?

Any advice for mixing, eq, or anything else?

Thanks!

Its a lil too trebly, needs some bottom end to balance it. Its a good song and decent arrangement. The beginning isnt quite working. Good stuff.

I agree about being trebly. I would suggest throwing an organ part right below the heavier electric guitar parts to help fill out the mix. I would pan the sax more to the center during the solo, but it is fine to the right during the rest of the song.

I like the song; it has that Beck feel to it, and really dig the vocal style.

thanks. The overall mix is too trebly or something in particular? I'd hesitate to cut the highs on the vocals because it's a ribbon mic and it could get muddy.

By the heavier guitar part, do you mean in the chorus, or the "dun dun dun dun" part before the chorus?

Hi's sound fine here. Could use a little more bottom though. I like it overall. I like the roomy vocal and the voice. Fishmed, I did'nt feel any Beck in this. Can you give me a clue?

for the bottom should we add lower instruments? is that what you mean?

or should we just turn up the midrange intruments and the bass?

Great song. It reminds me of Pavement or Built to Spill. Or even more, Neutral Milk Hotel.

I'd like to hear more of your songs.

On getting more Low-end. I'm not sure turning up the bass is going to do anything. Oddly, it seem pretty present.

In fact, I don't have any tips.

The acoustic guitar seems to be the biggest problem with the recording for me. It's evident in the beginning but less obvious with the other instruments; although probably adversely affecting the sound throughout.

The drums are recorded with a real live sound. I don't know if that's contributing to the treble problem but I actually like what that does for the recording.

Very glad than we sound like Neutral Milk Hotel! :D
We've really been struggling with getting a good acoustic sound... Maybe we'll just cover it up.

In the beginning it was not good. I thought something was wrong with pitch and the sound in general.
Suddenly I realised it was great song. I started over and it sounded just like first time.
You obviously can make music and you have your unique style.
Take a look at those strange things in the beginning.
There are probably few more things to improve in mix itself but do fix that beginning and post revised mp3 again. It would probably be good new start.
I liked your drums. Nice sound. Still, in some places it seams like drum player is not located on the same stage with rest of the band (if you know what I mean). That shouldn’t be a big problem. Just some tweaks here and there in mix. I don’t hear the bass. If there is any don’t be afraid to turn it up.

I liked song, by the way. I'm looking forward to hear next (improved) version.
I hope I did not offend you by any means.

does the acoustic sound better on this one?

All My Friends...:

ok...i listen to a lot of indie.

the acoustic sound is just fine for indie. could be prefered.

the electric part in the softer part could come out just a bit. and yeah, the bass could be louder. maybe a bit of compression on it too.

the guitar tone isn't really important, as long as the drums and voice sound good.

i think the tones really fit the style, but those few things could be turned up a bit more. the glock/xylophone could be centered more i think, and turned up.

really though, don't retrack the acoustic or anything.

man...do you know the guys in drive all day? they're some good indie.

i like it a lot
