Hey guys, I have a Boss GT-6, but I can't seem to figure it out. I want to use it to record direct, but when I go from my guitar---GT6--audio interface...my volume is WAY too low. I can have the patch volume all the way up, and have my gain on my interface (M-audio fastrack) cranked, but to no avail. Am I missing a step?

Isn't there a master output volume knob? There has to be another volume control that you didn't notice.

Yes

Yes, that box has a small master level knob on the back right behind the FX-2 bank pedal.

Could it also be that he is running a -10 output to a +4 input?

I did notice the master output, and it is cranked to the max.

What did you mean by a -10 to a +4?

If I add the effect to a recorded track I run my GT6 as an Aux Send and return from my board and don't have any problem. Usually if I know which sound I am going to use I will just send it through an amp and mic the amp. Typically that sounds better anyway.

Well, there is about a 99% chance that your Boss unit is outputting a -10 reference level.

There is a VERY good chance that your soundcard is set up to recieve a +4 signal. In reality, there is about a 12dB difference in those levels.

Usually, you can change the soundcard reference level setting either via a switch, or via software.

Since you didn't give complete info in your regular post, it is all speculative at this point! ;)

All well Ford van, I appreciate that information. I didn't have clue 1 about the db difference, so I wouldn't have known to include this information in my "regular post". I will check the settings on the soundcard, and adjust accordingly. Thank you for your help. ;)

Anytime you are talking about "levels", you have to include EVERYTHING in the signal chain to effectively troubleshoot what the problem is.
