Need the new upgrade for my MR-8...but cannot open it !! New system has XP, and the message is "does not recognize file type- or corrupted if sent via email" or something to that extent...anyone else see this error code before? What do I do? :-(

software

sounds silly but im sure you tried to download again right? you need to compy the file to your cf card, not open it on your pc there should be instructions with the upgrade....

Tried new D/L's several times....figured there would be instructions on the file itself...will investigate further, I spose...

Any idea what this version adds? I can't find any description.

It gives you a setting that gets rid of "delete unused", so you don't manually have to always do it to save card space.

Hello,

what is the name of the download file, it should be like: mr8v111.zip
After unzipping the file it should be like : mr08_mv1.11
This file you have to copy to your MR-8 flash-card.
If your Windows system doesn´t unzip the download file, try an external "unzip" program, like Winzip.
Or ask someone else to unzip the file for you and send it back to you.

I hope you solve the problem.

Bye Tom

Tom, can you send it to me? It is on the fostex home page...I have tried winzip and adobe to no avail....

Hello,
what should I send you ?
I don´t have the Win staff, I have only Mac and Linux.
Try to find the program "unzip" in the web, this can be used at the command prompt of Windows.
Good luck.
Tom

Can't OPEN? Hell, I can't find the stupid upgrade. I haven't been on the fostex site in a couple of months and they've changed it big time. It sucks (BIG TIME!).

Any clues or a URL?

Thanks, Steve

Hello,
the 1.11 upgrade for the MR-8 was only at the USA-server www.fostex.com. I downloaded it yesterday, but today the host is not available -- maybe tomorror ???
I hope the host will be online soon or Fostex put the file also at the other hosts.
Bye

Thanks, I did notice that the US server was down. I should have put 2 and 2 together.

I just don't get Fostex. Thir products aren't half bad but why do they do their web sites in such a cheap and stupid way?

Regards, Steve

OK, this is really irritating...I have tried the above programs several times to no avail....has ANYONE d'loaded 1.11? I CANNOT OPEN IT!!!!!!

Hello,

-- I downloaded 1.11 -- no problems.
-- I unzipped it -- no problems
-- I copy the 1.11 file to the CF-card -- no problems.
-- I restarted the MR-8 by holding down the STOP buttom
-- now the MR-8 runs with 1.11

I think Fostex did a good job. They can´t know that a Win toy is not able to do the user-part of the job. I did it on a Mac and Linux PC -- no problems.

Good luck.

finally...you have to click and drag to make it work LOL I have a brain....:-p

So, did you get it to work? Your post leaves it up in air. I found the same page you did and it worked perfect.

The only question I have now is how to turn ON the auto erase.

Just for kicks, I looked at a used card in Windows Explorer and boy, that explains a lot! The file structure became clear and also why did it the way they did with re-takes eating more space on the card. I wish the manual had made clear the fact that you can go to a folder ("folder" being your song title you entered) and review EVERY take. This would allow someone to piece together if they want. It's a feature, btw, that you WILL NOT SEE if you use their transfer program. I think you will only see the last take of each song.

Anybody else discover this?

Come to think of it, it makes their transfer program unnecessary. The "takes" will be numbered it order and will list with the times. I'm sure this gets more complicated as you add tracks but for someone like me, it works slick.

Steve

yes, it worked by actually clicking and dragging the file into the flash card folder. I was trying to unzip it to no avail...

card files

yes all the files are on there from all the takes, and you can use a wav editor and peice together parts, BUT if you do any punching in, or start recording at the middle of a song instead of the beginning, without using the wav manager program, the punchins and all will not line up in time in the song.... so you dont have to use wav manager to transfer file, but it keeps the parts in time with the song.....

Thanks Dave,

I kinda thought that might be the case. As usual, what I do uses about 5% of what a DAW has to offer. Heck, I've never had to bounce tracks within the MR-8. Maybe I should learn that stuff in case someona actually asks me to do something productive with my setup. :D
