I have just digitized my set-up, meaning I've just added a mac with reasons and pro-tools. To accomidate pro-tools i added a hardrive. When listening I notice two disticnt noises. The loudest is a hum that comes from my hard drive. It disappears I the hard ddrive is disconnected from the mac. Second i hear an airy, static like noise that I cant get rid of. Does my setup leave me open to these types of problems because of Reasons or are these noises common to most.

Puhlease he'p me!!!!!!!!

Are you saying you hear this noise through the speaker?

Or do you hear this noise from the hard drive?

Are you using an internal soundcard? They are more prone to pick up noise from the computer. That's one of the main reasons for using external interfaces.

A good power conditioner can give you a greater signal to noise ratio and help lower the sound floor (hiss).

If the hum isn't too bad just isolate the computer when you're tracking or get another hdrive that isn't so loud. The drives shouldn't hum at all. It's usually the fans that cause the noise.

The airy-staticky noises could also be coming from the cables that you use. Check them out and make sure the instrument and speaker cables aren't crossing any power lines.
