Hi..I'm using Sonar LE which came with the sound card i installed. I imported a midi drum sample into a project but i cant hear it in playback. It shows fine in the clip pane. I've assigned the imput to my soundcard (omni midi); the output to the soundcard; the midi channel is set to 10; I havnt chosen a bank or patch setting; although i tried that and it still doesnt work. I can hear playback on my other projects so I know the soundcard is working ok. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong???

Sounds like your doing everything wrong

a) your terminology is wrong. There is no such thing as a midi "sample" (well, there is but not like your using it). I will assume your talking about a midi file (*.mid). Midi is for the most part note data there is no sound associated with a midi file until you route it to an instrument. Think of midi like sheet music, u can play any instrument from notes on sheet music, without an assigned instrument, the midi data is meaningless

b) you dont need to assign an input if your playing back a midi file since the file is your input. You only need to have the MIDI IN connected if you are playing a midi instrument via keyboard controller

c) Your MIDI OUT needs to be routed to either a virtual instrument inside of Sonar or a physical midi instrument connected to the midi out of your sound card

Read this several times until it makes sense:

Or you can use your sound card if it has a midi synth built into it. Some do. Some don't.

thanks
