I installed the Omni/Delta 66 in my computer recently. Everything recording-wise is working fine. I'm running the monitor outs from the Omni into the Aux input of my home stereo amp. I can hear playback of my recorded wavs. Problem: I can't hear audio from the Windows98 CD Player or from Winamp. There was (and still is) a SB compatible sound card in the PC. Shouldn't I be able to use the Delta for all audio output? I'm guessing this is a setting or configuration issue. I'm running Win98, 350mhz, 64mb.

Anybody have any ideas?

thanks,

I would start by checking the device manager (windows 98) and insuring that the two cards are not sharing the same IRQ. If so this will cause problems. I am not a computer guy but have run into this problem on my old compaq.

Thanks Dragonworks, for the advice and Gidge, for the thread. I'll check it out.

simple solution........
after you installed your new sound card did you re-connect your cd drive to the sound card? There is a physical connection between the two that must be made in order to hear cd's.

This is no longer true so long as your playback software will handle digital playback. The newer versions of Win Amp and Media Player will do this.

The problem to me sounds like you have your SB sound card set up as your Windows playback device, and you probably don't have any speakers hooked up to it anymore. Tough hearing things without speakers.

Go to your Control Panel and open the Sounds & Multimedia folder. There should be a tab for Audio. Make sure that your Delta card is selected for Audio Playback.

That will probably fix your problem. If it doesn't it may be because you don't have your playback software set up for digital playback. (I don't think the Delta cards have the physical connection required to accept the cable from your CD for analog playback).

To do this in Windows Media Player, go to Tools -> Options and find the CD Audio tab. You should see a checkbox for Digital Playback. Make sure it is checked. (You need a relatively new version of Media Player for this (v7 I think) - not the version supplied on the Win 98 disk. You can download it for free from Microsoft.)
