I want to run my M1Active 520 monitors out of my M-AUDIO Audiophile USB interface's headphone output. I have a splitter that takes one quarter-inch out and splits it into two. When I plug my monitors into this splitter, I get a low centered sound, and normal (loud) sound when I pan the track either R or L. I also lose the pan dynamics of the audio this way. I'm assuming that my headphone output from my Audiophile must be mono, correct?
Is there any device I can buy to correct this? I know that I can simply buy a better interface (I bought the Audiophile before I was recording with good dedicated monitors), but I don't have the money for a new 300 dollar box.
On the back of my Audiophile there is a stereo out, but as an RCA (R and L) output, not as quarter-inch. Would simply buying stereo-to-quarter inch converters from radioshack be a simple (but unimpressive) fix? I could then plug my monitor stereocables directly into these converters and run all sound directly out of the box.
