hi all, I'm pretty new with mixing and mastering and need your help.

I have a song that was recorded elsewhere and I need to make it sound good. The song is in Russian and the language inherently has a lot of 'S' and 'Sh' sounds. In this particular recording they are very visible. I tried to use de-esser but it doesn't do much. What other technics/filters/etc. I can use.
Please advise.
Thanks!

Get a better de-esser!

But seriously - if you can't cut it down with a de-esser, it's very likely that you either have to live with what the de-esser can do, or re-cut the track..........

You can't polish a turd..........!

And what are the best de-essers and where can I get one?
Thanks

SPL, Drawmer make good outboard units....

Waves makes a good software plug-in....

Or you can take the track to a mastering place - they'll be able to do a much more effective job....

i really have no business even being in this area of the clinic but all of my recordings have nasty sibilance and i'll tell you something that worked pretty well for me recently.

Wavelab. I watched the spectrum of where those Ssss's were jumping and wrapped one band of the multiband around those frequencies and then just started bringing down the peak of the compressor until it sounded more in control.

again, i'm not even close to being a pro but this was the easiest fix i've ever tried. Wavelab is not cheap, but you get an awful lot of good stuff for the price imo.
