So i just bought a new Focusite ISA one and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro but i cant seem to get a signal from the preamp when i connect to the interface. If im not mistaken the mic should be connected directly into the interface right? This is where i get confused. I have a 1/4 xlr that im trying to run from the output to the interface but im thinking i need a 1/4 trs instead. I will post pics of the backs of both devices so that u guys can give me a better understanding of what needs to go where. I know this is a little elementary but bear with me. Thanks

Your interface is a mic preamp and analog to digital converters built into one unit.

You can bypass the mic preamplifiers by plugging something into the line input.
You can bypass the mic preamplifiers and the digital conversion by plugging something into the s/pdif digital input.

Either way the order is microphone-preamplifier-converter.

As it stands you'd want to use
xlr to xlr to plug the mic into the preamp (isa110),
then xrl to 1/4 to run the preamp into the interface (maudio)

The latter cable comes from xlr on isa (main O/P) to trs line input on maudio.

If you spring for the isa digital add on card you can bypass the maudio mic pre and converters.

simple. seems as if i tried this already but didnt get a response. p.s. im not home right now but i will update u if it gives me any further problems.

also i have a question about a loud humming in my headphones during recording and playback. i simply had the mic plugged into the interface (no preamp) and as soon as i que'd the record button i began to hear a loud humming. was forced to turn down the gain until it was unrecognizable but wasnt able to completely get rid of it which at that point made it impossible to record with my levels that low. is there something that i need to adjust within protools to get rid of this or may there be an issue with my cables/interface??

You need to tell protools which channel of the interface you're recording from.
That applies whether you're using built in pres or external ones.

About that buzzing, what kind of cable are you using for the mic? It needs to be XLR to XLR.
