Can't believe I'm asking this question....

So seeing as I'm a semi-professional drummer, I've never cared about drum machines, drum synths, drum replacement, triggering etc. before. The only synthesized drums were the ones I wrote in my composition software while writing music.

Anyway, I have a session coming up in March and the guy wants me to program some beats for his songs (and he'll pay me a bit extra for 'em too). He does Death Metal, and I have very, very little experience in the style, so its not like I could actually drum the parts he wants (plus I don't have a double bass pedal).

So my question is, I'm looking for something that can easily be integrated into Reaper for doing programmed drums. Free preferably, but I'm getting paid for this so I won't mind spending a bit of money, but this isn't something I want to heavily invest in as in most situations I would just drum it (but as I said, can't do Death Metal, and he kinda specified programmed drums). Sampling is fine....hell, I could probably just sample my set and go from there.

Do you have an electronic kit? Buy addictive drums. You can map your hihat pedal to be a second kick drum... Or use a keyboard or something as a midi controller.
However if you're not familiar with the style that may be best place to start.
Hear some samples. I swear by addictive drums and they have pretty awesome metal kits included.
Awesome samples. There's a free demo on XLN audio website. Hit hat snare and kick only. See if it works with reaper
