Cannot highlight bars!!

All of a sudden today I am unable to highlight any bars. I am totally unaware of something which I might have done, but this most important feature has suddenly stopped working. When I drag my cursor along the bars (or, part of a bar), nothing happens. What on earth can have caused this. I hope there is a simple fix. Thanks in advance for your help, as usual. Brian
 
Reaper v6.83 This has never happened before. I shut the software down and opened it again. Still not working. Very strange.
 
By the way, this problem occurs only with one project. It works fine with the others.

Yeah, you probably hit L on your keyboard by mistake somewhere along the way. I've done it before and it took a while to figure out.
 
This has plagued me off and on for years and I finally figured it out just last month. Went in the action list and deleted that shortcut. I never want that behavior, especially accidentally.
