The small band could also be 40 members and 15 of those are soloists. And various competitive circuits that might consider that too small to compete.
If you're using the computer mic, I don't see how using the D.I. via line input would improve on that. Better off with a better mic, or something like a Zoom H1 on the cheap. You'll likely need something to convert the D.I. input to line input to use your computers existing hardware. But if you're going to do that much, just get an interface with the Hi-Z input needed to be a D.I.. Many ways to perform surgery with a kitchen knife, err skin a cat, err float a boat, err.....
