I was wondering if you can make good money like being DJ in a party, and if it needs some kind of special training?? is it too hard?
If anyone here works on that, It would be cool to hear experiences...

Pablo, I dont know anything about it, but I have played lots of weddings on Violin, and the DJs could make $500 a night! Obviously the key is marketing, an attending lots of bridal fairs, etc. Plus, word of mouth is crucial to weddings and corporate gigs, office parties, etc., so if you do a great job word will spread, and hand out lots of brochures.

and how much is like the less you get a night??
is it too hard to find a gig??because we all now as rock musicians it's hard... if you get one, they won't pay you that much, will they?

DJ'ing takes lots of training.. you need to practice at least 3-6 months before you can even think about gigs.. but when you get gigs the money can be great.

that's ok! I don't usually runaway from my trainings :D

So what would be a cheap way to get started?? I don't have any DJ friends, so I suppose I have to start from some computer program...
I have already made some songs with fruity loops, I like them a lot, but you know, everybody likes his own music :)
I suppose nobody will want to hear at my music in a party, they want to hear the top 10, so I have been looking for a program that can matchthe bpm from one song with the other, like make all songs 140 bpm so I can mix the easily, and also some of those comercial tracks for DJs, like remixes, or short loops and that kind of stuff...
Thanks a lot for the answers!!

pablo that's not the way to go and it won't make you any good at dj'ing.
A dj must be capable of taking two tracks at different tempos and make the tempos match and the syncronize the beats.
I'm a vinyl DJ myself (using technics 1210) and it's not easy money. It's hard work to learn properly and it demands 3-5 hours of constant consentration. But it's also great fun and making a perfect mix simply can't be beat.
You won't get anywhere in the buisness by going the easy way. And no soft/hardware can automatically make perfect sync anyway.
If you're not too serious about it yet, then i know there is some free software for winamp which can give you just a glimpse of what it's like.
If you need any more info, just ask. :)

Ps. You need much more than just the top 10 and chart stuff to make it. People also wanna hear something different or interessting once in a while.

you really can't make good money just spinning at parties unless your a well-named dj or it is a business, but you still probably won't make that much money.

peace.

I think that you all answered pablo's question well.

It will take a sh*tload of practice to be "party" dj.

You have to figure out will you be mixing CD's, vinyl, mp3's, or a combination of the three.

You have to figure out what types of music you want to play.

You have to buy a ton of vinyl or CD's.

Unless... you get on the regional or national (international, if it's "house/dance music") mailing lists, but in that case you have to already be an established DJ in a larger market area (i.e. New York, LA., Chicago, Atlanta, etc.).

Once you get proficient at your artform you can make a LARGE amount of money.

You will also be provided with FREE airfare, lodging, transportation (with a driver and/or guide), and perdium (sp?) (daily spending cash).

Once you reach the top of your game (mixing as a dj) and have put out some of your own releases (records), you could make between $20,000 and $35,000 per gig. But then again that depends on a myriad of different things.

If you get good you can make $500.00 a night or if you get overseas you can make $500.00 for every 15 minutes.

It all depends on you, your potential, your abilities and your resources at hand. :D

peace...
