I'm not really sure what mastering would do to make this track sound better, but I've read alot on this forum that mastering is a good idea. I just have no idea how to do it or if this is even the right place to post something like this.

You would be better off linking to a page with a 24-bit download of the tune.

I'll throw you a 'home' mastering of it. :)

You will be better off of Massive or someone else does it tho.

I'm not sure how to make a 24-bit version, but the mp3 version I included above is a full quality, very low compression (if any) version

Just export as a 24-bit wav file. And share it via Yousendit or some other file sharing site. You could just send it to me, and I will post the link here for you.

Even a 320 MP3, holds maybe 1/3 of the info of a wav file. Not a good starting point....

Yeah, I had that issue before. lol

I have a bit of time here in a few.

Here is one of my home masters for ya. The kick is really hot in the mix (on the chorus-ish part), so it is tough to keep the mix from 'pumping'. It is close however.

I really like the tune, and otherwise love the mix.

Here is one with a bit of stereo widening. The shizz that I will get some crap for even using. It kinda works on this tho. Just playin cuz I'm bored.

Maybe we all learn what not to do from this huh? :)

The stereo widening thing sounds kinda cool although it makes the hi hat and cymbals pan 100% left and right, but I don't know about that pumping effect that's going on, it's quite noticeable. Would it be better if I turned down the kick in the mix?

I like how it is louder than my unmastered mix, but I'm still hearing that pump effect, like I said earlier, would it help if I turned down the kick in the mix before you added compression to it? I'm going to be putting this album on iTunes and I don't really want any noticeable pump on the tracks

Yeah, me too. Pull the kick down a bit, and post again. I will do it again and see what happens. :)

I think we can all learn from this. Would be nice if a pro came around to comment tho.. Hint, hint. Where are you John? :)

Alright I'll make a new version tonight and re-upload a .wav tomorrow morning-ish, thanks for the help yo!

that one actually sounds quite a bit better, what didn't you like about it?

It does for sure! I didn't like the stereo widening crap I played with previously. It wasn't on the R5 master attempt.

Again, I am no mastering engineer, I am just experimenting. :)
