I don't remember those...I had a shit laod of the special edition stuff.
Special Edition? man, special edition was about 18 years too late for the toys I'm talking about. :p

the "original" and "battle damaged" XWings (etc) came out sometime between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. time to do some research. :D

(edit: research complete--they came out after ESB to "reflect" Luke's xwing that crashed in the dagobah swamp--looks like they came out with ROTJ logos on the boxes. check out http://cgi.ebay.com/STAR-WARS-VINTA...DVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220083776056 for an example).

and Light, that's hilarious. :D

the way i see it, if you want an old looking guitar, just buy an old guitar. there are plenty of 80's beatup strats for cheap out there that play and sound great (at least better than the 70's strats, IMO).

Ok.....we've all seen the new Fender Custom Shop "relic" guitars.....where you spend $3K and you get a new guitar that looks all beat up (it's been "professionally relic'd). i understand the concept but not the appeal. whatever.

anyway......how do you end up with a blemished relic? how/why would it matter if it's blemished or not? you're buying one that's been intentionally beaten up!

i just don't get it.

custom shop relics are reliced to a standard.....line them up and they all have the dings in more or less the same place.

also if you wack a custom relic you will notice that it doesnt look like an authetic wack because the wack once made has not been artificialy aged...its new!!

because the wood is new and the paintjob is not like a really old 60s paintjob.....it wont ding like a vintage.

hence the blemish in the discription.

!! hey guys this isnt a genuine 60s guitar but if its custom shop it probably plays and feels a whole lot better than the original. ;)

i'm with ya........i just thought the whole concept of a "blemished relic'd guitar" was a bit on the absurd. something from the Department of Redundancy Department. :D

Uh uh, Chucko, you gotta plug in the female!

That is funny. But are we all not in agreement that relics are completely lame and will end up being the photo-flames of this era?

aplogies to you relicites and photoflamers.

Obviously I'm in the minority, but I think a well made relic is cool....... as long as it is set up well, has a nitro finish, and isnt overly obvious....... When I see dudes playing home made relics done on poly finishes, with uniform screwdriver marks and the obligatory right forearm rubbed through to the finish, NOT SO MUCH!!!! Paying Fender for an "official" relic is goofy in my book.

Here is my favorite relic maker.... they used to be great deals on well built guitars, but from what I have heard, theres a big waiting list and they aint cheap anymore!

I have a relic, and some would say that I *am* a relic as well. I've been relicing my Strat for about 30 years. It's not nearly done, I hope...

Why would you play a 30 year old guitar when you can have Bill Nash build ya a new one that looks the same? RIDICULOUS!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a cool guitar/soulmate!

If all the yuppies would actually play their guitars and stop treating them like they're made out of glass there would be no reason for these relic guitars. I can hear the phone conversation over returning the guitar now, "Hi, I just got my relic strat in and it has a scratch on it". :D :D :D If I was on the other end of the phone, I'd give the buyer some shit over that return.

I read somewhere that they took SRV's guitar and actually X-ray'd it and measured the depth, location, and length of every scratch on it so they can re-create it. To me thats absurd.

they have 'jaco pastorius' ' bass on the Fender website too.

i'd wet myself laughing if, instead of selling their version, they actually ended up selling his original bass.

Andy.

Actually, it was already 17 years old when I bought it, but I know where every nick and scratch since I got it came from. ;^)
