Ok.....we've all seen the new Fender Custom Shop "relic" guitars.....where you spend $3K and you get a new guitar that looks all beat up (it's been "professionally relic'd). i understand the concept but not the appeal. whatever.

anyway......how do you end up with a blemished relic? how/why would it matter if it's blemished or not? you're buying one that's been intentionally beaten up!

i just don't get it.

It should be more expensive. It is more relicsized (a custom relic job)

Outside of the issue with buying a beat up guitar.....

MF uses "blemish" as a substitute for "refurbished". So someone already bought and returned it. God knows what made them return it, but I would rather not find out.

it has a hideous colour and the matching headstock makes it even more ugly! (don't cheap hookers wear that colour lipstick?)

listed at 5500? i can have a guitar made carved out of a single piece of ebony for that money!

Well, sure, but it will sound like shit. :D

i'm with ya........i just thought the whole concept of a "blemished relic'd guitar" was a bit on the absurd. something from the Department of Redundancy Department. :D

I guess the QC guys have their fingers in everything, including the ruination of a perfectly good guitar! :D

Those relics remind me of the toy X-Wing fighter I had when I was a kid. All my friends had the normal one, but I had the one that looked all beat up, and everyone wanted my X-Wing. I didn't understand why at the time. Now I get it. My X-Wing was 'vintage'!

LOL

that was the "battle damaged" XWing. They were grey. I remember those. They had Tie Fighters that were "battle damaged" as well. i had the opposite situation--i had the original one (the white one) and all the other kids had the battle damaged ones.

they stopped making the "regular" ones once the battle damaged ones came out.....so technically the original white ones are "vintage".

i need to put all my star wars crap on ebay and buy some 1073's. ;)

man, a painted headstock on a strat has to be one of the ugliest things in the world. :p

I see teh irony, but this particular beast probably just has neck issues or something. I love their whole thing about factory 2nds just being some minor finish flaw when it's usually a playability issue.

Meh :p I like my painted headstock. But then all in all, seafoam green is an aquired taaste anyway. I like kooky paint jobs though :D

The fun ones are when the relic guys come in and have us touch up a ding they put in their guitars.

I swear to god, I'm not making that up.

I like the idea of stuff that looks like crap being more expensive. I've often considered going into the Gap and offering to trade my jeans with patches of duct tape sewn on ("vintage" jeans) for pair of brand new (not sh*tty) pair.

That's pretty funny right there. You should offer to convert it to a relic ding for half the price of fixing the normal ding. :)

I don't remember those...I had a shit laod of the special edition stuff.

Wait a minute, there's good chance that I'm a blemished relic, refurbished of course.

Me and a friend were just talking about this the other day. Fucking Stupid! It's like the acid washed jeans for guitar players. Would you buy a new car that looked like it had been around the world a couple of times? Custom shop my ass!
