Just Killing Time
Hey guys.
It's been a long time since I've heard the dry signal of a good guitar. My one sucks.
I am struggling to get a decent tone with it. To me, the signal coming from the guitars direct signal is really muddy, and unclear. Add distortion on top of that
I'm writing a lot of metal right now, and a lot of the songs contain fairly intricate chords (3 or 4 notes, not straight power chords either), so the definition is really important. I'd love to get around to recording it, but it'll just sound like mush.
Basically, I want to see if it's the signal coming from my guitar, or whatever I'm doing wrong. (Someone's gonna say turn the gain down - Believe me, I tried. It just sounds weak, and not any bit clearer.)
I'm using Guitar Rig - and I know it should be pretty damn easy to get a good tone from that. However, even when I was using my Marshall ValveState (hybrid) amp, it was still unclear.
I've uploaded three bare (unprocessed) DI signals: Just the guitar, straight into an MBox 2 (Pro Tools). All volume and tone knobs up etc. I'm wondering if one of you guys could throw them into your amp sim setups (or real amps and pedals if you have re-amping equipment). Or maybe post up some of your DI guitar signals to compare 'em with or whatever.
All mp3 files are 320kbps MP3, so they're pretty much as good as lossless.
(and yeah, it's out of tune
)
Cheers guys, any help at all is much appreciated
Clean Riff: Metallica - "Nothing Else Matters"
Lead: Thin Lizzy - "Dancing in the Moonlight"
Rhythm: Iron Maiden - "2 Minutes to Midnight" (Had to use wikiupload for that one, lightningmp3 was being a c***
)
