Can people please recommend an acoustic Guitar for $150 - $300

It's not for me but for a friend. They are a beginner, so ease of playing is more important than sound.

washburn d100 gets my vote. it costs $130 from musicians friend (it had been $100 for a while, which is what i paid for it). it's made of mahogany (laminate I believe) and sounds quite good. i'm not normally impressed by acoustics, so it's a pretty big deal for me to be taken by a guitar. you can listen to a sound clip of it here http://home.comcast.net/~fgpereira/song1.wma

it's not a perfect representation of the sound due to my lack of recording gear, but it should be fair enough.
 
Yamaha... anything else in that price range (new) is usually junk.

It has a nice action, good tone, straight neck, and is a joy to play. Not as good as a $1500 Taylor, but getting at least halfway there. If I'd had a guitar like this to learn on 40+ years ago, instead of the one I had with 1/4 inch action at the nut, I might have learned a lot sooner, and a lot better in the end.

I filed the string grooves in the nut a little deeper, but other than that it needed no work. The saddle is of proper height, and the intonation is right on. It has a nice finish (black.)

I've heard rumors that the durability might be lacking glue-wise, but have seen nothing from first hand reports. And for $60 - what if it does fail after a few years - use it for repair experience. :)
 
Guitar on Budget

I would have to agree that a good USED guitar will serve you better; Look at Ibanez and Yamaha's

Yamaha makes some nice sounding cheap guitars. The thing I like about them over some of the others is that when the guitar gets to be a few years old it sounds better and better. Some of the other cheaper ones don't do that.

I was a big fan of Yamaha, until I played one of these. Best cheap acoustic you can buy.. Polish the frets and install some Martin strings and you have a great beginner acoustic for $59..

Anything in that price range is firewood.

But I do have a campfire guitar I'll recommend..

Any of the "AW" series Ibanez are good for the money. I've got an AW-20 that's perfect for taking camping. ;)

Don't be too sure unless you've tried it. This is an excellent first guitar.

Yes it does, adjustable from the soundhole - mine needed no adjustment so I don't know how well it works.

I had one of the "IveBeenHad" Artwood acoustics and it wasn't even suitable for firewood. I paid well over $500 for that. The Ariana I just bought for $38 plays and sounds 50 times better than the AW..

No sir, I am proud to be Ibanez free since 03....
