Can no longer read dat tape

I can no longer replay music that I had recorded on a dat tape. The tape is unreadable. I've got a valuable piece of music on it. Any hints on how I can recover it? Is there any tools out there that I can use that will do the job?

That sounds bad. Don't try to play it anymore. Go to a search engine like Altavista and try the search string

+"data recovery" +DAT

You will get lots of hits. Contact them and make sure they have experience with audio tapes (most of these companies deal with data). It will likely be expensive, though.
