Can I use this?

I have a Mackie DFX mixer that I plug into my computer through an MAudio card to record.

I was recently offered a Bellari compressor for virtually nothing that I know works and is in great condition. So I was wondering...

1. Is there any reason I shouldn't get it?
2. How would I hook this up to what I have? I am utterly lost on this one.

Also, I mentioned recently about the Neumann M147 I was given. I forgot to ask before...it came with a preamp, and I have none (I always use the ones built in to the Mackie). Am I safe in assuming that the preamp it came with is good enough, or do I need to consider getting one on my own?

As always, I am extremely appreciative of the help I get on this forum.

Ok, so while I wait to see what advice I can get I'm reading a lot of things I only sort of understand. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could send the signal out through the AUX send (mono?) and then have it sent back into the stereo AUX return? I tried that setup out, and I didn't really notice much of a difference. Am I wrong in thinking that's the way to hook it all up? Is the computer getting the signal before the compressor can alter it?

Try using it as an insert. Just use one of these. Plug your compressor into the proper 1/4" TS ends, and plug the TRS end into the "insert" conection on the channel strip of your mixer.

But doesn't that require that I plug the mics directly into the compressor? Because that would limit me to two microphones at a time. Or am I missing something?

OH! I get it now. Awesome!

Any advice about the preamp question?

A model number and brand name would be pretty helpful there...

I don't see any real information on it. Like I said, it came with the Neumann, and has the brand name on the front.

On the back it says N 149 A?

That's not a preamp, that's a power supply for your tube mic. ;)
