Hi. I really love singing so I made a video of me singing Let It Go by Idina Menzel (my idol). I listened to it back and I know I hit a few dodgy notes but do I have the potential to sing or am I wasting my time?

I don't know if you're wasting your time. You need a lot of work.

Pitch is extremely important but it's not the only important element.

Support your sound.

Listen to and be aware of what makes a good performance sound like a good performance. Phrasing, nuance, musicality, dynamics, enunciation, the overall vibrance - along with pitch of course. No matter what you do it's going to sound like shit if your pitch is bad.

Listen to how pros get into and out of notes, pitches, phrases. Listen to the nuance of what they do with pitches. If you're not completely happy with what you hear make it sound better.

Support your sound.

Here's an excellent performance of the song by an amateur. She definitely has her stuff together. You might also consider working on material that's more in your range.

If you can't discern the above elements and learn to incorporate them into your singing then you're wasting your time as far as any aspirations to have people want to listen to you perform.

I don't want to be harsh but that's pretty hard to listen to. It's too low for you and you're singing into what, your laptop mic? And posting blank videos.... and you're not really singing... just trying to keep pitch with a song melody. That's not singing.

If you want to learn to sing, then stop dicking around with technology and sing properly. Listen to some real singers and come back in six momths when you've learnt a bit more and practiced a lot more.

You asked.:thumbs up:

I wouldn't give up the day job any time in the near future. Echoing Armi, that's pretty horrible to listen to.

As above, practice, practice, practice. It's the only way. But you may also have to accept that some people are tone deaf monotones. With lots of practice you'll never know.

Sorry..........but no...no...no. At least not in that vocal range. As with many of us who have a limited range.......finding the right song in the right key can be all the difference in the world.........or at least enough to be passable..........an enjoyable. Try again. Giving up makes no sense.

Okay, I'm going to be brutally honest.

First caveat: anyone who isn't tone deaf can learn to sing (and sing well). Second caveat: musical theater is something I know lots about -- I've worked in it professionally, I write for it, and I've been musical director on a number shows. In other words, I really do know from where I speak.

To answer your question, no, right now, you can't sing. You have absolutely no technique whatsoever. Your voice isn't supported, you're breathing wrong, and your phrasing is just awful. The good news is that you are not tone deaf, notwithstanding some real difficulty matching pitch.

The solution for you is proper vocal training with a legit voice coach. All of these skills can be learned, and learned fairly easily (though it takes practice). If you want to sing, you'll be able to. Learning proper technique is just a skill -- it's craft, and anyone can acquire it (if they're not tone deaf, and you're not). What can't be learned is a passion for the music and, from your post, I'd say you have that (I love Idina Menzel as well -- she's an amazing performer). Find yourself a good vocal coach -- one who teaches legit voices, not pop singing -- spend a year with him or her and then come back to us if you want feedback. At that point, however, I don't think you'll need the feedback, and you'll be well pleased with your voice.

You are a prime candidate for vocal lessons. Take them and practice, and I think you'll be good. Your technique and pitch are just off.

This is the only part that matters.... screw the rest.

Sure . . . if Daniel loves singing, who are we to rain on his parade? Daniel can sing to his heart's content and feel the love.

If he wants to go any further with it, to do more than just 'love' it, then he needs to do some work.

True but if he loves to sing then the rest will come with time. I guess the thing for EVERYONE is that you should be realistic. You WILL NOT BE FAMOUS! But if you sing because you love it then you will be successful.

Guys... Daniel hasn't come back.:thumbs up:

I'm sure he is off being dedicated to his craft :D

But for real I hate when people say they "love" something and don't pursue it. Cheapens the value of the word!
