Hey everyone, so i was wondering if i can sing?

I've been told my whole life that i can and as i'm turning nineteen this year, i want to know for sure. I don't know if they're just being polite or if i'm as unique and interesting as they say, hopefully the latter.

I will be posting up a link here tomorrow, hit me with your best shot of CC when you can!

cheers from the girl who is ready to live her dream.

I've posted this below:

Be honest, feel free to give me some pointers :P and thankyouu for listening!

This is the place to get honest criticism. Just brace yourself.

It may be good; It may not. :)

Hey! :) yep yep, i'm looking for some feedback whether it's good or bad haha.

Your mate's got a nice voice, i listened to a few, thanx!

I shall be linking a rendition here soon XD

You sound all right. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but if you are wanting me to be honest, I think you need to take vocal lessons and apply more effort to the task of singing. What can be very easy and very helpful is simply practicing singing LOUD and more often. Go somewhere comfortable where you can be alone and play music and sing as loud as you want. Your voice needs to be exercised!

Thanx for the feedback, yea i know i should work on expanding my range via a vocal coach etc, but they are a tad pricey haha. My feeling's are all good XD i just wanted to hear what strangers thought as opposed to everyone i know lol.

honestly, i've heard much worse and i've heard better. you're pitching is fine and i like the kinda soulful edge to your voice, but (and it may just be the recording) it sounds a tad nasal for my liking. it also sounds a bit constricted as if you're not really comfortable.

can you sing; yes. can you improve your singing; hell, we all can :D

i've always imagined singing in the same way as athletics. if you've got two legs you can run, but not all of us can run 100 meters in 10 seconds! however, if we train and practice then, in time, we could all easily run that fast, if not faster. the big thing people often forget about all things musical is that a good starting point is a natural talent and passion. you're clearly passionate and you have got a talent, nows the time to really focus on it.

I think you need to take vocal lessons
this. a vocal teacher will be able to expand your capabilities and bring the best out of your voice. Personally I think you are not bad, but to listen to a whole song like that I would get bored. thats mostly because most the singing is the same, a bit more power at times and strong notes mixed with soft notes would make it a lot more intereseting :) but keep it up!
and dont think I'm being at all cocky, I wouldnt dare put a track of me singing up....

and about the price, well, what are you prepared to pay, and how committed are you? you could get relatively cheap lessons with not the best teacher in the world but it would help. also, the odd lesson every month wouldnt be a bad idea if it is such a problem

I agree with the others above. You need vocal lessons. The good thing about that is that in short yes you can sing, but you could sing way better. I started vocal lessons about 3 months back and it's worth the effort. If it's something you love you have to go for it.

Heya Polarity, i've started vocal lessons haha.

I'm really hoping that my breathing improves and i'm able to sing more comfortably. How's your singing now? has it changed?

I plan to really go for this soon, i can't let all these songs i've written go to waste, now can i XD

Haha once again, the original is mono-tonal and laid back and i was just trying to follow its themes (maybe i failed lol), but you make a fair point - listening back i agree that it is very similar. I'll look into changing up my singing asap haha.

I've started vocal lessons and they're helping quite a bit, i need to keep focusing on my breathing haha.

Youu should totally put a track up of you singing, what's the worst that could happen?

cheers for your feedback :)

Heya justsomeguy XD

Thanx for your running analogy, makes sense but yes, i am passionate, singing and song writing is just so natural to me, i don't know if i could ever stop lol.

(and it may just be the recording) it sounds a tad nasal for my liking. it also sounds a bit constricted as if you're not really comfortable.

Have you heard the original? It's a very mono-tonal, laid back song - i was just trying to follow its themes haha i guess my sister was right and it's not a good audition song. Also, i used my laptop, is that considered good or bad?

Focus? i shall.

unfortunately i remember living through the summer when this was number one in the charts for far too long and every flippin radio station played it around the clock.... and then i had to learn it for a covers band

when you say laptop, do you mean just the built in mic or through a separate mic, because if it's the first that would explain the nasal sound :)

And yeah, i kinda agree with you sister; there's so many songs out there that i think would suit your voice much better and give you an opportunity to show off you range and abilities to their fullest

Yes I've definately gotten better. I'm pretty much learning you can change everything except your tone. You can learn to hit notes better, stronger, clearer. Hold them longer and much more. Breathing is key, learning to get "power" from the right place is really important.

I'm very happy with my progress so far but honestly I don't like my tone, the sound of my own voice. One day I may get brave enough to post something up.

thats a good start then :)

and definitely not! I suck so much, and whatever the worst is, it will happen. Besides, I've got my singer in my band to sing in my song I'm recording at the moment, (I could say it is actually me muahahaha :D ).

Try singing a few times without worrying about tone...try to sing out from the deepest parts of your belly...try singing from up out of your pelvis! Does that make sense? I think your voice is a bit airy, but good news! That's not talent or lack there of, it's just technique! Experiment with voice placement and singing out from the depths of yourself, you'll have a RICH tone that might surprise you. And remember, singing from your depths up and out your nose is great. Singing purely out from your throat will actually harm your vocal cords. Have your voice flow up from your lower body, through your vocal cords and out your nose. Keep working on it and asking questions! Good luck!

Hey sorry about the delay guys! But thanx heaps for your feedback SweetDahlia - i shall take all of that into account, it's true that you can sing with a smoother tone when singing from your stomach-up and out instead of just your throat haha XD

when you say laptop, do you mean just the built in mic or through a separate mic, because if it's the first that would explain the nasal sound

@Justsomeguy it would be the first one, i don't have a separate mic :( ahah just making do with what i've got XD are you still performing? ah yep! i'll be posting up something else soon, when i get back home haha i do sound much better when i'm sing a song by someone that's similar sounding to me or one of my own, i just really like follow me as a song XD

and @polarity @ollie99 youu guys should pluck up the courage and post something :P when you're ready that is :)

i was just thinking, how amazing would it be to actually make it in this industry ..
