I have a fairly old quad core Xeon 2.00 GHz Mac pro and am finding it is being stretched when trying to use VIs likw Cinematic Strings and Project Sam and other libraries. I would like to add more in the future but can't afford to upgrade the Macpro just yet. Can I link my MBP which is i5 2.5 GHz via ethernet or something in order that the cpu load can be shared?

DAMN!!!! You gonna get sum POW-uh right der son.

Um.... I think FX Teleport does this, though I am not sure.

FX Teleport

I KNOW this is possible though.

Thanks Crow, I checked out the link but it looks like it's a windows app. I need it Logic, audio unit, Mac compatible.

I'd start by trying AUNetSend/AUNetReceive, which ships as part of the OS, if memory serves.

Fot the life of me I can't get a handle on how I would do this. I've read what I can find about AUNetsend/receive but it seems it wouldn't work for 3rd party plug-ins and virtual instruments.

Perhaps VE pro 5 is an answer? I have been looking at youtube vids and tutorials and am still not sure whether it is the solution I am looking for.

Anyone use it with Logic 9?

I heard VE pro 5 would work. I have no idea how the actual software works though. Sorry. :(

Audio units form a chain. AUNetSend can be one link in that chain. You can route the audio output from your VI to AUNetSend, run some heavyweight effects processing on another machine, and bring the data back with AUNetReceive.

If you're trying to run VIs themselves on another machine, the input to the VIs isn't audio; it's MIDI data. So you would need to set up a network MIDI interface on the second machine, and send the MIDI data through that.

Just thought I'd let you know that I downloaded a demo version of VE Pro 5 after sticking more ram in the MBP and MP. The two computers connect with a single ethernet cables and the program takes care of everything. The audio coming from the VIs in the slave computer gets piped back to the DAW so no extra hardware is needed. I can spread the processing and ram needs of my plug-ins between the two computers.

Thanks for your replies.
