Hi all, I am looking for a bit of kit that will take a dynamic mic input and give me an output to headphones so I can practice vocal. I would like it to have an input from ipod or similar so I have a ‘reference’ in my ears to sing to (that I can vary level of). Additionally, it would be nice to have guitar input that I could record to pc, and then play back to sing over. I guess audacity or similar would let me record in this way? If I wanted to add vocal to a previously recorded guitar track and end up with stereo mix, is this possible with this kit? Is latency an issue doing this? I think multimix 4 will do this, but it isn’t 100% clear. Excuse if these are numpty q’s, I don’t want to shell out my hard earned for something that doesn’t do what I want. Thanks for looking, Brian

The ALesis will do the first things you're looking to do - note that anything being sent to the MAIN output of the Alesis will go through the USB (stereo, so left & right channels) to your computer to be recorded - so if you're listening to a track from the iPod plugged into the Alesis, you will be recording it as well as your vocal. One way around this is to pan one thing all the way to the left, the other to the right (so iPod to left, vocal to right), then record each to a separate track. Of course you end up with a mono backing track that way. You can load the backing track to your computer (best way to to do it), then load it into the DAW for better options.
Of course the best way to do it is to get a dedicated Audio Interface - read the stickies in this forum.

Thanks for replies gents. Looks like I will go down the Alesis route. Accompanied vocal practice is my #1 requirement, I probably wouldn’t be recording it. The comments on fx are useful, my vocals need all the help they can get, and I couldn’t find any other similar kit offering that. It would certainly get used more if I can just fire it up rather than using PC as well. The recording requirement is secondary, but I would like to try it. Basic audio interfaces don’t seem to be too expensive if I get more serious with it. If any other thoughts occur to you, please shout, I will probably head to the shop tomorrow :listeningmusic:. Thanks again, Brian
