Can Cubase Be Used In Conjuction With Notation Software - Sibelius etc?

Hello everyone, I have been trying to learn how to use Cubase 5s notation software - the sad fact is it is awful. It is the least user intuitive and flexable program I have ever used.

I love using Cubase however for arranging tracks etc, so I was wondering if there is some way of using a proper notation program with cubase while arranging songs.

The reason I require this is the following:

I write all instruments lyrics and vocals, so I find it easier playing about on an acoustic instrument and then using a VST instrument to capture that idea. It is much more difficult recording the actual instrument as if it requires ammendment - it has to be rerecorded - this is why I like using the VST.

Now, the arrangements are usually complex, therefore I need to score the parts so I can finally record using the real acoustic instruments. I also require the ability to record vocals along with the VST.

If Steinberg had bothered to update their notation software from previous versions of cubase, and tried to make it easier to use and less labourious to do the simplest of tasks - I would have no problem, however, this is not the case. It is awful notation software.

Is there anyway of connecting Sibelius to cubase? So that Sibelius plays back recorded midi files in cubase in real time and uses cubases vst instruments?

Is there other software I can use that is more for what Im wanting to use? I have only ever used cubase before, and so have no idea about other programs such as sonar etc.

I wouldn't mind using that software for arrangement puposes, then move over to cubase for the final recording of real instruments.

Thanks for any help recieved! :)

If I understand it right, wouldn't it be easy to just dump the midi and import it inside whatever other software notation you wanted?

It may not be that simple though...

I understand where you're coming from, but it would be a bit of a hassle. At the moment, i record the virtual instrument, arrange then record real instruments while the score is synchronised with the recording - so i can read the full instrument score and play a full part in one go as cubase records.

Ah, I see. I think the only DAW that really syncs with Sibelius is pro tools (since avid acquired it). But truthfully, I have not worked with anything other than the score editor in cubase. I tried a Finale demo a few years ago and thought it was really easy to use.

Good luck with your search.
