I recorded audio files and I liked to get rid of some hiss using a wave editor like Cool Edit Pro. I know where Cakewalk stores the wav. files. I'm just wondering if after editing them and placing them back into Cakewalk's wave folder It'll recognize the edited wave files. Has anyone tryed this? Any ideas folks?

I don't use Cool Edit, but most wave editors should show up in CW's Tool Menu. I use both Sound Forge and Wavelab, and both show up in the Tools Menu. Check it out.

If so, all you need to do is highlight the track, the go to the Tools Menu and select your wave editor. That should load the track into the editor. Make your changes, when you return to CW it should give you a message that the wave has been edited and ask if you want to load the new file.

This, of course, would be a destructive edit and it will replace your original track.

Another approach (which will work even if CE is not on your Tools Menu) would be to mute all the tracks except the one you want to work on. Then export it as a wave file. Load the exported wave into Cool Edit and make your changes and save it.

Go back to CW and add a new audio track and the Insert the edited wave file into the new track. Then archive your original track. This is a little more work, but will give you the edited track while stilll preserving your original track.

Yes! And here,s the way to do it

Open the Cakewalk project that you want to edit.

Select the track in the track view by clicking on it. This can be a single track in a multitrack project or a stereo track that you have mixed down within Cakewalk or imported from another location.

Go to Tools ..located in the Tool Bar at the top..and you should see Cool Edit Pro listed at the bottom along with any other wave editing programs that you have loaded on your computer..ex:
Sound Forge, Wavelab etc etc..

When you click on CEP..it will open CEP and load the wave file that you selected in cakewalk..

Edit to your hearts desire...after you have done your editing ..close CEP....it will ask if you want to save changes..select Yes..the program will close out and you will be back in Cakewalk...Cakewalk will then let you know that that the track has changed and would you like to reload it? Click yes..and you are set..If in the above scenario you wanted to save the edited wave file to another location prior to exiting CEP..you simply select the Save as command..rename it..and send it to another location...then exit CEP...

By the way, Cakewalk works this way with most of the wave editor programs..(Sound Forge, Wavelab)

I should warn you..that if you have done a lot of editing to the audio within Cakewalk..for instance punch ins..or loops within the track..the wave editor" MAY" separate all the little pieces and you will have to listen to all of them to find the portion you want to edit ,and if you want to treat them with the same edit ..youre gonna have to do it one by one..this may or may not be true in CEP but does happen in Sound Forge...but the batch converter would be the fix in Sound Forge.

Hope this helps..holla back if you need clarification..or maybe someone else will simplify my explanation :)

Sorry dachay2tnr, it appears that while I was plodding along with my explanation..you were already handling things..and in good fashion as always :) Good job!

Under the Tools menu I don't have 'CE'. I do have both 'WaveStudio' and 'Tuner' from Creative, but they don't have any noise or hiss removal features.

How does one export the audio track after muting the others? I don't see anything in the menu that allows me to Export.

In CW PA9: Tools -> Mixdown Audio ->Export to File.

In Sonar: Files -> Export Audio

Thanks man!

I really wished I could see 'CE' in the Tools menu, it would probably export quicker. I guess I'll have to try the long way.....thanks guys....
