What is the difference between the Fatar SL-990 and the normal SL-990? Or is there no difference?

I'm mostly just interested in hammer action and a keyboard to record drums and any virtual instruments I happen to find interest in.

Also, do I need to buy a MIDI cable separately to connect to my Firebox? Most keyboards do not come with them, right?

I suppose you mean the Pro vs XP? The pro has tow parallel midi outs, XP only one. Also the pro has 8 velocity settings or whatever, couldnt rem, why dont you just check their site?

Right you will need a midi cable. Use the breakout cable of the firebox, connect midi in of the breakout cable (red) to the midi out of the keyboard.

I have an SL-880 and it's a fine controller. Might I suggest however, the Maudio Keystation? I find the Keystation pro has a nice action, and is better suited for managing virtual instruments due to its crapload of buttons, knobs, and sliders.

It took me a couple of days to get used to the keystation touch, but now I love it.
