I'm looking for a reference amp around the $300 price range....what about those alesis ra-100 any good? are reference amps much of a muchness or do they matter??

Hafler seems to be recommended highly on this BBS. Don't think you'll get much wattage for $300 though. Do a search on this BBS for Hafler and check eBay for prices.

Definitely Hafler...i have the TA1100 ($199) and its very clean....the TA1600 goes for $249 and has a bit more power....the P series is a step up but usually start over $400.......

I don't know about the Alesis, but the Hafler TA series is very nice IMO. I wouldn't trade mine for an Alesis + $100.

Tdukex...how do you know you wouldn't trade it for an Alesis if you don't know anything about the Alesis. :)

I have an Alesis RA300 and it is $279 pretty much everywhere. Here are its specs

I like it very much and it is very clean. It gives 90 watts at 8 ohms which is not bad. Also it doesn't use any fans so it is completely silent. I can turn it all the way up and there is no noticable distortion or hiss.

I don't know anything about a hafler amp, but if it was better than mine I WOULD want it. :) I suggest you see if you can find someone that has used both, or take a road trip and try them for yourself.

If you want a GOOD amp, I recommend the Hafler P3000.......... it's not $300, but you won't ever have to worry about upgrading it!

Yeah i was asking about it becuase i wanted to power the tannoy system 1000 but after checking them out i realized those monitors are to large for my room (oops).

Got my heart set on some event PS8's (they go down to 35Hz compared with the reveals @ 62hz)

Hafler would have been my choice though...thanks!

I have the Alesis RA300. My ears are probably rubbed raw from live performances but I find it clean and quiet as prevous stated. I'd really just like to echo the fact that I wish I had a little more power. It's a tad weak.

That's typical for all Alesis amps! (Not to mention the Samsons!)

I have a pair of Hafler P1200s,so another vote for Hafler.
