Can Anyone Help Me Put The Right Notes Into My Piano Roll?

This sounds like a right dummo request but I am trying to do a cover and I'm stuck. I'm excited about doing it because I believe I can do all the parts except this one bit in the intro. I have spent about three days solid trying to input a few notes in a pattern lasting just 3 seconds and each time, it sounds nothing like the original. I can't move on with the rest of the project until this part is done.

Now I'm not suggesting anyone writes the whole thing - there are just six or seven notes that I just can't place.

If I posted a screen shot of my DAW's piano roll and a link to the song, (with the relevant time reference) would it be possible for someone to pop in the notes in their DAW and send me a screenshot of theirs?

I would imagine it would be quite easy for an experienced musician who plays by ear. My ears are still in training.

Sorry to be a pain.

Thanks

If you post the song I'll try to help you out... no guarantees though.

Thank you. I've never had this trouble before. There are some strange things going on in this song.

The original is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U_hRJHc3eA

You only need to listen to the opening part.

The song starts with a kind of 'sweeping' arp sound. Then starts a metalic sounding synth... It's that tiny little repeating melody I can't quite get.

du-du-dudu-du-duu There, I've hummed it in type!

I can't work out what the bass is doing on the opening part, either. It's not one note after another - it's like a lot of notes all crammed together on each beat.

I'm using FL Studio and this is an image of my piano roll for the synth... I've made a little progress since I first posted but it still doesn't sound quite right.

And below is the one for the bass. Not much there, so far. I just wrote this as part of a guide track.

Many thanks for looking (and listening).

I'm on it.

PROGRESS UPDATE

I have two of the four instruments in the intro down. I wasn't exactly sure which ones you meant me to do so I'll just do them all. I'll be done soon.

Okay, so all of the instruments are done now. Would it be helpful if I posted a MIDI file of each instrument so you could just load it into your DAW rather than having to hand-draw every note in?

Yes, I suppose that would be much better.

I haven't worked with MIDI files much but I have the option to import MIDI files into FL Studio.

Excellent!

Alright, so I zipped all the files up and uploaded them here: http://b2.s3.p.quickshareit.com/files/miditracks3a660.zip

Once you unarchive the zip, you will see four folders for each track I did plus a bounce of three of the tracks together to help you with the context of each MIDI file. Inside each of the tracks' folders are the MIDI file for the track, a bounce of the track, and a screenshot of my piano roll for the track.

There are still some adjustments you will probably want to do to each track, but I hope this will start you off and will keep you from having to figure out each individual note for the intro. If there's anything more I can do please let me know. Good luck!

I just realized that in my three-track bounce I needed to move the "Main Bass" track up a measure in order for it to match up with the original song. You can easily do this as you are arranging the MIDI files.

BTW, the files are meant to be looped as necessary.

That is awesome, you've hit the nail on the head with that!

I've played around with some synths and am starting to get almost exactly the right sound.

This has really helped. This has really given me a good start to work with. I'll post up the song when it's done and credit you with the work you've done.

Thank you!

Cool. It was pretty fun to do. Glad I helped!
