Can al MIDI keyboards be used as MIDI controllers for my DAW?

I was wondering about this ^, because I found this old Yamah PSR-240.... it has a MIDI I/O and I need a keyboard for my DAW stuff so......

Absolutely. I prefer real synths to controllers because they can make their own sounds without connecting to a computer.
 
sure but it doesnt hurt to check for any irregularities. Good example is the ubiquitous DX7 only transmits 0-100 velocity. More advanced things like aftertouch may or may not be supported as well..

True that. With some older synths, you may not get velocity at all, let alone aftertouch. A Casio WK series workstation would be a good choice for GM + controller.
 
Some MIDI keyboard may or may not have full support on certain DAWs.
Chances are that you'll have to assign keyboard functions such as knobs on a DAW manually.

It's 2011, pretty much anything is possible.
If not, someone will MAKE it possible ;)
