I like the tune.

Suggestions:

The drums are to far back.
The intro flute has some very bright peaks on certain notes. Compress to even out.
Vocals not clear enough.
Guitar may have a tad to much reverb.

Much better, and I agree the flute is a bit dynamic still. But your making headway on this. Maybe compress the vocals just a bit more, then bring them back up in volume. That might make them a bit more clear in the mix.

Hi Folks,
I applied ALL the suggestions except for Snakedog's as I only just found it. BUT I WILL.
Not sure if the VOX are any clearer - you tell me.
Here's the result:

I look forward to your ideas.
Yes, this second version is a better mix.

I agree about the vocals - they need to come up just a touch. They are more even throughout the tune. I remember you mentioned a tape issue with them, but hopefully that won't give you too much trouble..... :o

I'm liking the verb on the flute.... ;)

Again I'll try and listen some more a bit later.....

:D :) :D :)

Hey Ray...I'm not going to comment on the recording because I like the vibe of this tune so much, I'd dig it even if it was recorded on a cassette player. I'm always blown away by tunes that are so different, I can't imagine ever writing anything like it. This is the kind of tune that you might not notice too much on a CD. But after a year of owning the CD, it becomes your favorite tune. It leaves an imprint...cool vibe.

Hi Folks,
Thanks for your time & suggestions.I'll get to them today.
david,
Thanks for the suggestions. I can't change the verb on the guitars as that's the way they went in - part of the rig settings.
I'll listen to the drums & tweak.
I've found something to help the vox. I was trying alsorts of fancy plugins to no avail. a 2 band EQ (well actually more a pass filter) with a partial boost to mids that's part of Cake 9.3 it seems to do the job - it'll be in the next version.
The flute peaks came with the reverb seems to jump a little in spots - I'll suss out the comp.
Dogman,
Yep Flute. I've managed to almost even out the vox but they seems to have lost some vol. I'll lift them a little.
Ido1957,
Hopefully the 2 band filter & mids boost will deal with most of the tape noise - gating didn't work, so it'll have to. Is the verb fade in on the flute OK? I thought I'd bring it in gradually but it may be too gradual.
RAMI,
The pre-eminent preamp king - thanks for the kind words. My collaborator, Terry, & I disagreed over which song to work on next. I cheated & popped this up anyway. Glad I did.

The verb fade on the flute is good - gives it a build up flavour, like a crescendo...... Listened again on phones - your list of to-do's above is complete I think....I'll check in on you later....
