Hi,
I am looking at buying another telecaster. I got a mexican and modified it but there is a chance that I can buy a fat telecaster as well.

So my question. What is significant about the californina series of fender guitars. The price I am able to obtain this guitar suggests that it is not a true American as it is supposed to be. It's a 1997 guitar, when did fender start using Mexico for the standards?

I was reading reviews on harmony central about this guitar and there were a few to pioint out that it was not a califrnian series guitar.

Any thoughts,
Krystof.

And by the way. The telecaster has only 21 frets not like the 22 frets on teh specs of the fat tele. Maybe it because it's 4 years old, I don't know the specs from back then.

The california series was sort of a hybrid, partially made in US and partially in Mexico. They have Mex specs, hence the 21 fret neck like all Mexis. They are great guitars, though, for the money. Ususlly have hotter pickups, and some may even be nitro finished, not sure of that though.
A step above the mexi standard, a step below the Americn Standard. My vote is they are good guitars (Especially the Tele with the neck humbucker!!)

Cheers H2H; I couldn't find the answer to that anywhere else easily. You may remember that it's the fat tele that I was after before. This one comes with a seymour duncan quarter pounder in the bridge position so that should help as well.

I may or may not get it; thatns for the help.
